Privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-10-12
In short: the tests run on your device and we don't collect your results. The only third parties are our host (Netlify), Google AdSense for ads — with your consent in the EU — and, only when you start it, the speed-test server on Cloudflare.
Who is responsible
Controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): Ahmad Asad, Lohbachufer 5 / Top 35, 6020 Innsbruck, Austria · email asad.ad.1996@gmail.com. Full details: legal notice (Impressum). DeviTest is run privately by one person; there is no data protection officer, as none is required.
What we do not collect
There are no user accounts, no analytics or tracking tools of our own, and no social-media plugins. Test results, camera images, sound, typed text and information about your device are processed only in your browser and are never sent to us.
Storage on your device
The site stores a few things in your browser's local storage and in a service worker cache. They never leave your device:
- Preferences: language, light/dark theme and the stuck-pixel fixer settings.
- Your own scores and settings: best results in the click-speed, reaction, typing and spacebar tests, and the screen-ruler calibration.
- Full device check: progress of the current check, tool results for 24 hours so they can appear in the check, and reports only if you press “Save on this device” (you can delete them on the check page).
- Offline copy: the service worker keeps the site's own files so it also works without internet. They contain no personal data.
Legal basis: this storage is strictly necessary to provide the functions you use (§ 165 (3) TKG 2021, Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR), so no consent is needed. You can delete it at any time in your browser settings (site data).
Camera, microphone and sensors
They start only when you press a button and your browser asks for permission. Video, sound and sensor data are processed on your device and are never recorded on or sent to our servers. The 5-second microphone recording stays in your browser and disappears when you leave the page; photos from the camera test are saved only to your device if you choose to.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Netlify, Inc., 101 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA. To deliver the pages and protect the service, Netlify processes technical data in short-lived server logs: IP address, time, page requested, referring page and browser type. The latency test sends about 20 tiny requests to the same server. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Transfers to the USA rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. We don't use these logs to identify you.
Internet speed test
Only when you start the speed test, your browser exchanges random test data with our test server on Cloudflare's network (Cloudflare, Inc., USA; the data center nearest to you). To make the connection, Cloudflare processes your IP address and technical connection data. The server returns only your internet provider's name, your approximate area and the data center used; it stores nothing, and the test data is discarded immediately. Legal basis: providing the service you requested (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). Transfers to the USA rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Advertising and cookies (Google AdSense)
We show ads through Google AdSense, provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure them and prevent fraud.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a consent message from Google (a certified consent management platform, IAB TCF) asks for your choice before advertising cookies are stored or read. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, § 165 (3) TKG 2021). You can change or withdraw it at any time with the privacy-settings link the message leaves on the page; withdrawal does not affect earlier processing. Without consent, Google may show limited, non-personalized ads, using cookies only where the law allows (for example to prevent fraud).
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this or other websites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of other vendors at aboutads.info. More: how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA, which is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Email and the contact form
The contact form doesn't send anything by itself: it opens your own email app with a prepared message. Screen and browser information is added only if you tick the box. We receive email through Gmail (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC). We use your address and message only to reply (Art. 6 (1) (b) or (f) GDPR), never share them, and delete the conversation when it is no longer needed unless the law requires us to keep it.
Fonts and other resources
The site uses fonts already installed on your device. No fonts, scripts or images are loaded from third parties other than those named above.
How long data is kept
Data on your device: until you delete it (tool results: 24 hours). Server logs: as briefly as the hosting provider needs for security, usually a few days. Emails: until your request is settled.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data (Art. 15 GDPR), to have it corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17), to restrict processing (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. You can complain to a supervisory authority — in Austria the Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna (dsb.gv.at) — or the authority where you live. To use your rights, just email us.
We make no automated decisions about you and do no profiling. You are not obliged to provide any personal data to use the site.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from them; in the EU, the consent message for ads is meant for adults.
Changes
We update this policy when the site changes; the date at the top shows the latest version.
