Typing speed test
How many words per minute can you type? Start typing — the timer starts with your first key.
How the score is calculated
- WPM (words per minute): correctly typed characters, including spaces, divided by 5 and by the minutes — the standard used by typing courses, so results compare fairly.
- Accuracy: the share of your keystrokes that were right the first time. Corrections still count as mistakes.
- Raw speed: everything you typed, right or wrong. A big gap between raw and WPM means you're rushing.
What is a good typing speed?
- Under 25 WPM: beginner. 35–45 WPM: average adult. 60+ WPM: fast — enough for most office and programming work. 80+ WPM: professional level.
- Aim for 95% accuracy first: speed follows. Look at the screen, not the keys, and keep your fingers on the home row (F and J have small bumps).
Frequently asked questions
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Phone typing is usually 30–40 WPM; autocorrect is switched off here so the result is honest.
Some keys don't type at all
Check them in the keyboard test: it shows every key that responds, stuck keys and double presses.
